Popularly known as Will Smith, Willard Christopher Smith Jr. is an American actor, producer and rapper. His impact upon the industry has been so big that Newsweek even ranked him the most powerful actor on the planet during the year 2007. However, prior to that announcement, Smith has been starring in various roles that have earned him various awards and nominations.

The second son to parents Caroline and Willard Christopher Smith Sr., he was first recognized as a rapper under the name The Fresh Prince during the 80’s. Soon after that, Smith was cast in the TV series The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air which launched him in the eye of the public. The Prince title was reportedly coined during his school years wherein the young Smith was very charming.

After the end of The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, Smith then pursued his career in films, eventually starring in blockbuster movies like Independence Day and the popular Men in Black playing the role of the funny Agent J. The actor also released a song “Men in Black” which became the movie’s theme song and ranking in number one.

He reportedly turned down the role of Neo in “The Matrix” in favor of the movie “Wild Wild West”. Some of his most notable movies include his portrayal of the boxer Muhammad Ali in the movie “Ali” wherein he was nominated for the Academy Award for the Best Actor. His film, The Pursuit of Happyness also earned him the nomination for the Best Actor Oscar.

However, it was his role in the movie I Am Legend that won him the Saturn Best Actor Award during the year 2007.

Will Smith has a daughter named Willow Smith with wife Jada Pinkett Smith.
