Born Kevin Spacey Bowler on July 26, 1959, this actor, producer, screenwriter and director has been active from 1981 to present. He first began his career as a stage actor during the 1980’s and then moved on to film and television. Born to parents Thomas Geoffrey Fowler and Kathleen Spacey, the actor was officially entered into the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 1999.
On 1999, Spacey won the Best Actor Academy Awards for his role in the movie American Beauty. Prior to that, the actor was acknowledged as Best Supporting Actor for the movie The Usual Suspects.
During his early years, Spacey has already shown a penchant for acting, starring at a school senior production of The Sound of Music as Captain George von Trapp. Growing up in California, he has a brother and sister both older. Prior to studying drama at the Julliard School of New York, Spacey had first tried his hand at becoming a standup comedian.
The actor’s first major TV appearance was on Crime Story’s second season premier. Although for all his acting endeavors, his father was unconvinced of his making a career out of acting until Spacey became a popular name in theatre.
However, what really launched Kevin Spacey into A-lister status was his role in the movie The Usual Suspects for which he won an award. His other starring roles were in movies Pay It Forward, Superman Returns, Seven, and L.A. Confidential.
Unfortunately, his first foray into directing proved to be unsuccessful in the box office with the movie Albino Alligator. Still, his work as a director was greatly praised.
In 2003, Spacey has decided to become the artistic director of the Old Vic theatre in London.
